RESEARCH-TO-PRACTICE IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

Understanding research for evidence-informed decisions.

The objective of this course is to foster the critical analysis and thoughtful application of research findings to clinical practice in speech-language pathology.

By the end of this workshop, trainees will:

  • Learn to acquire/look for scientific evidence.
  • Learn to evaluate the quality of scientific evidence.
  • Learn to integrate the scientific evidence into the hierarchy of evidence quality (evidence pyramid).
  • Learn to integrate the scientific evidence into the five-phase model for clinical-outcome research.
  • Understand basic statistical issues (related to p-values, effect size).
